Great post today at The Paris Review Daily by Emma Straub. She talks about living in places where famous writers have lived and written, including Ted Berrigan and Wallace Stegner among those whose footsteps she followed. I went through a similar thing. I remember learning Thomas Wolfe had lived in Hell’s Kitchen after I’d moved there. I picked up Look Homeward, Angel, and I imagined how he must have felt, a foreigner to NYC, striding through its streets, remembering his childhood in the South. I was a foreigner then, too.
